WHITE PALMS (Hungary, 2006, in Hungarian with English subtitles, 100 min., dir: Szabolcs Hajdu)

Inspired by the life of his young brother Zoltán Miklós Hajdu who plays himself in the film and who performs with the famous Cirque du Soleil at Las Vegas, Szabolcs Hajdu retraces the steps of a Hungarian gymnast who becomes the trainer of a young Canadian and helps him reach the summit.  Beautifully shot and edited, effortlessly evoking its respective time-periods, and through them, the clash of different cultures and values, this proved a multiple award-winner in Hungarian Film Week in Budapest in 2006, before going on to make its international premiere in Directors' Fortnight at Cannes. Partners: International Visegrad Fund
