Christmas concert: Gypsy Gospel with Kalyi Jag

Kalyi Jag, „Black Fire” was formed in 1978 by a group of young Roma lawyers, educators and musicians united by a passion to preserve and promote authentic Roma folklore and language through lyrics and music.

Over the past three decades Kalyi Jag has not only become one of the most internationally acknowledged representatives of the original Gypsy musical tradition, but has demonstrated, as well, a commitment to fostering Roma social equaltity through focused patronage of educational and cultural programs.

Mr. Gusztav Varga (Knight of the Order of the Republic of Hungary) founder of Kalyi Jag Band decided to establish a school, Kalyi Jag Roma Minority Vocational and Technical Schools and Elementary Art schools. Today there are specialized developmental Kalyi Jag educational institutions in three settlements in Hungary maintained by the Association.
