A Couple of Jazz

András Pecek-Lakatos and his talented wife play and sing jazz standards in the company of well-known young Roma jazz musicians of Hungary.

András Pecek-Lakatos is one of the best drummers of the new generation of the Hungarian jazz scene, also winner of the Jazz Drummers’ Competition of the Hungarian Radio, he plays in various formations as the Oláh Dezső Septet, Pataj Jazz Quintet, the Pecek Lakatos Trio or Oláh Dezső Junior Trio.

His wife, Piroska Sárközi, joined her husbands’ performances just recently. She attended the Jazz School of Kőbánya, her teachers were famous jazz musicians and singers like Gyula Babos, Tamás Berki, Jenő Esze and Ildikó Faith. She used regularly sing at the Kempinski hotel, the Cotton Club bar and the Moulin Rouge club.

Károly Gáspár is the student of Kálmán Oláh, he won the prize for the best jazz ballad in the 1998’s jazz piano competition of Hungarian Radio. Regularly playing at festivals, in clubs both with his own band and other jazz formations. His partners were Imre Kőszegi, Géza Lakatos Pecek, János Egri, Gábor Juhász, Nikoletta Szőke and Gábor Winand.

György Orbán was studying classical guitar first, later he took up the double bass. In 2003 he came third at the National Jazz Bass Competition organized by Hungarian Radio. He's played at several important jazz festivals and is a member of the famous New Gypsy Jazz outfit led by pianist Béla Szakcsi Lakatos and can also be heard on their riveting album as well as on records by the world famous tenor-sax player, Tony Lakatos.
