"Anglo-American Vistas Through My Lens" - photo exhibition opening of György E. Szőnyi, Professor of the School of History at CEU

György E. Szőnyi is a part-time Professor of the the School of History at CEU, he teaches Renaissance culture, image-word relations, the history of Western Esotericism, literary and cultural theory. He is also a Professor of the English Department at the University of Szeged.

Photography has been his hobby since adolescence - following his father's path who founded the first Photo Club of Szeged, his native town. His main topic was landscapes, wildlife and insects. It was also from his father that he learned laboratory work in B@W, LATER he became familiar with color photography, too. In the early 90's he switched to video and photo art (digitized small resolution video images turned into Photoshop Graphics).

Digital cameras have brought him back to "classical photography" – of course not without the temptations of Photoshop.

Since he has spent on various occasions more than two and a half years in the States (including two cross-country drives from coast to coast) and about 16 months in Britain (including an unforgettable trip to the Orkney Islands) it seemed a good choice to select for this exhibition at CEU from his pics taken in the English speaking world.

The pictures were taken between 2004 and 2012.

Opening address by Marsha Siefert, Associate Professor of the History Department, CEU.

Free entrance.
