Community Arts by KOMA - film screening and discussion with the staff of KOMA Bazis

Gardeners in the blocks (Panelkertészek with English subtitles, XVID, 2014, 6 min)
Kangas (Kangák with English subtitles, XVID, 2014, 15 min)
The Palace (palota with English subtitles, XVID, 2014, 27 min)
KOMA (Kortárs Magyar - the abbreviation of Contemporary Hungarian) is the first community theatre of Budapest, and also a progressive thinktank. It is an independent charitable organization with a small group of 5 staff members, paid interns and visiting fellows. KOMA was created to be an alternative theatre. Those who work there have always found it important to have a direct relationship with the people living around them in the 15th district in Budapest. They have reacted to the prevailing Hungarian reality either by making the audience become a part of the performances, evolving special educational programs for schools or by bringing Hungarian contemporary dramas to life.
KOMA presents its very first community video project in the neighborhood of Újpalota: XVID at CEU. The goal of the project is to present the traditional social problems of the community’s everyday life. It is done so by the use of unconventional, exciting and modern tools: providing cameras, professional and technical help to people of Újpalota to make their own films of the everyday reality they encounter all by themselves for a duration of two months.
