An Encounter with Dance

Jacques D'Amboise was a principal dancer for the New York City Ballet dancing in many of the ballets of legendary choreographer, George Balanchine. D'Amboise founded the National Dance Institute in 1976. The NDI program often combines music and art with studies of other cultures, history, and literature, offering a unique and comprehensive performing arts experience, while fostering curiosity and a sense of achievement.

D'Amboise has received many honors and awards, including the 1990 MacArthur Fellowship, the Kennedy Center Honors Award, the National Medal of the Arts, the New York Governor's Award, an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Boston College, and the 7th Annual Heinz Award in the Arts and Humanities, for his contribution to the Arts and Dance education.

Mr. D'Amboise will talk about his own history with dance as well as the importance of arts education for children, and the National Dance Institute.
